The Graduate English Association (GEA) is the the graduate student society for the Department of English at the University of Toronto and a course union under the University of Toronto’s Graduate Student Union (UTGSU). All full- and part-time graduate students registered with the Department of English are automatically members of the GEA and are entitled to attend and fully participate in general meetings; to bring forward motions; to seek election for any position within the GEA; to vote on any questions; and to sit on committees.

As outlined in its constitution, the purpose of the GEA is to represent and advocate for the needs and interests of its membership; to support those same needs and interests through direct action where applicable; to keep its membership informed of all relevant activities, events, and developments; and to sponsor, organize, and promote events for the social and academic advancement of its members.

We maintain this website with the help of CHASS (Computing in the Humanities and Social Sciences) to serve as a set of resources for GEA members and others interested in graduate student life and affairs in our department.

Our website resources are grouped in various drop-down menus. If you have additional questions, please get in touch with the GEA Secretary via the contact info for current representatives available here.
