The following is a list of student-run Clubs operating in the Department. Clubs exist as a counterpart to Reading Groups, and may be formed around any topic or purpose so long as they contribute to the social enrichment of their members and the Department overall. For more information or if you are interested in becoming a member of a Club, please contact the convenor(s).

Interested in forming a new Club? Check out our “Creating a Group” page for tips on getting started, then reach out to the GEA Secretary with the name and description of your new Club and they’ll make sure to add it to the list.

Growing/Writing/Reading Crew

This group mixes hands-on growing practice with literary studies.  We plan and grow a vegetable garden (and including flowers, possibly). We build a relationship with the soil as an organism, using compost to encourage healthy chemical composition; we plan and plant in a way that rebuilds the soil. We will donate part of our harvest to the GEA pantry and part to a local food bank (when there is food left over). Anyone is welcome – with any amount of experience, or none at all. Our growing practice provides a multidimensional context for discussing farming, ecology, and other environmental topics: in this safe space, we can read, write, and share our work.
